Patrick has been an engineering leader in the retail and healthcare industries for over 20 years. His career is marked by a commitment to leadership and expertise in building and managing high-performing teams. He has been responsible for overseeing product roadmaps, software engineering, operational strategy, and vendor relationships. He has a proven track record of innovation, receiving his first patent while at UnitedHealth Group. Most recently, he’s dedicated his time to helping smaller organizations overcome the challenges of growing and scaling from POC to hundreds of thousands of users. 

Patrick spent the majority of the last decade as a Technology Executive at UnitedHealth Group, managing an organization of 100+ globally distributed Product Managers, Engineers, Architects, and Operations professionals. His team was responsible for ensuring teams across UnitedHealth Group had the support and products necessary to ensure their applications were highly available during critical insurance-buying season, and stable enough to suffer a complete cloud or physical data-center outage. Patrick led multiple transformation projects spanning all 3 major cloud providers, as well as internal private DataCenters.

A defining aspect of Patrick’s career is his proficiency in running transformational engineering and product projects. He has successfully led organizations through agile transformations, operational overhauls, and culture transformations, resulting in the creation of high-performing teams. This unique skill set has made him a sought-after leader in the technology space.

Patrick’s diverse experience includes working with prominent organizations such as UnitedHealth Group and Best Buy, as well as smaller, privately owned entities. His adaptability and impact in different sectors showcase his versatility and ability to navigate the intricacies of various industries.

Notably, Patrick holds a patent in Natural Language Processing (NLP) related to customer service and web-chat interaction. This innovation underscores his commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and finding practical applications for cutting-edge solutions. His leadership in digital transformation projects across e-commerce, banking, healthcare, retail, and other sectors has left an indelible mark on the industry landscape.

Patrick lives in Iowa with his wife, where he also helps manager their retail empire consisting of 6 specialty retail stores in Ames and Ankeny.
